About Me

Hi, I’m Nellie :)
Ever since I could hold a pencil, I drew. It was a way to pass time and keep my hands busy. In the early years, I used art to process what I saw and how I thought and, as I got older, I became more interested in drawing for the sake of creating art. I began paying closer attention to the styles of my favorite artists, copying their work and researching their methods.
As much as I enjoyed art, however, I never seriously considered making a career of it. The idea seemed romantic and untenable. I enrolled in college and began making plans for a very different path. Partway through my first semester, however, I could tell it wasn’t the right direction for me. Nothing felt right.
I began toying again with the idea of monetizing my art, at first romantically, and then realistically. It was a skill I already had. If I was smart and disciplined about turning it into a business, it could be a viable option. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense; I could create my own schedule, work from virtually anywhere, and do something I loved. There was a challenge and there was freedom. My parents saw this and encouraged me to pursue it.
After months of going back and forth on the subject, I finally made up my mind. I finished the semester, dropped out of college, and jumped into the art world. I sought out books and mentors and began creating an Instagram portfolio. It wasn’t long before I got my first illustration proposal and less than a year later, the book was published.
Eight months later, I’m launching my business. I am extremely thankful to all those who have encouraged me to pursue this skill and create a lifestyle that so perfectly fits who I am. I hope you enjoy these prints as much as I enjoyed creating them.
